Educational/Professional Background
Professor Marie received her bacheor of arts in English and bachelor of science in secondary education from Kansas State University in 1997. Teaching at the secondary level from 1997-2001, she received her masters of education from Baker University in 1999. In 2003, she received her masters in British and American literature from Kansas State University and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in English Studies with an emphasis in language, literacy and rhetoric at University of Illinois at Chicago.

Community-based learning, service-learning pedagogy and professional writing, the megachurch movement
Recent Activities
Professor Marie is currently completing her doctoral dissertation—a socio-rhetorical analysis of the Christian megachurch movement. She recently published a chapter, “Assessing Student Writing and Learning” with Ann Merle Feldman and Candice Rai in the book Making Writing Matter: Redesigning First Year Composition for the Engaged University (SUNY Press 2008). She speaks frequently on the topic of megachurches and will be presenting a lecture, “The Greening of the Church: Evangelical Environmentalism and the New Civic Rhetoric” at the Conference on College Composition and Communication in 2009.
Hobbies
Long-distance running, exploring downtown Grand Rapids, taking road trips to Chicago and spending time at the lake
