Educational Background
Professor Kortenhoven received her bacholor of arts from The Ohio State University in 1995. She went on to study at Stanford University, receiving her masters of arts in linguistics in 2005. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Stanford University Department of Linguistics.
Interests/Areas of Specialization
Sociolinguistics, language and gender, African American (Vernacular) English, phonetics and phonology.
Recent Activities
Professor Kortenhoven is currently completing her dissertation on the linguistic construction of authority in African American women's language by focusing on the performance of a well-known African American woman preacher. Past interim classes have focused on broader African American English. Interim 2012 will focus the use of different linguistic varieties in animated films for children.
Hobbies
Reading poetry and fiction novels for pleasure and nothing more.
