Majors and Minors: Literature Major and Minor

Literature Major (36 semester hours)

Graduating with a Literature major

To receive a bachelor of arts with a major in English Literature, you must take the following courses:

At least two courses (taken to fulfill a specific requirement or as an elective) must primarily cover American or British literature written before 1800.

If you already have AP credit for English 101, you're welcome to begin the major straightaway.

If you are planning to double major in Literature and Linguistics or Literature in Writing, please note that only three courses may count toward both majors, and ordinarily these three will be 295, 395, and either 380 or (for honors students) 399.
