Placement in English 101
The English department offers approximately forty
sections of English 101 each year. Of these sections, three are
designated as honors sections. Regularly admitted students take
English 101 unless they pass an exemption exam [link to Exemption
Exam page], have earned AP credit for the course [link to AP Credit
page], or have transferred in equivalent course work from another
college or university [link to Transfer Credit page].
Students who are admitted English conditional
will take a test of grammar and writing during Passport. Based on
their scores on this test, students will take either English 101
or ASC007, a three-hour, non-graduation-credit bearing course that
will prepare them to succeed in English 101. Students must earn
a C or better in ASC 007 before they can enroll in English 101.
Students who are admitted ESL conditional will also take a test
of grammar and writing during passport. Based on their scores on
this test, students will take either English 101 or ASC003. Students
in ASC003 must pass a written examination administered by the Academic
Services Program and evaluated by the Director of English 101 before
they can enroll in English 101. |
