Research-based Writing
Much of what you need to know about conducting
research for a writing project you'll learn in your Research Information
Technology (RIT) course. All English 101 students are required to
take RIT prior to or concurrently with English 101. Many web sites
also offer help with research projects.

RIT: The Research Information Technology course
(RIT) [link to RIT web page], is a one-credit course required of
all students. First year students and transfer students must take
this course during their first or second semester at Calvin. In
RIT students learn about academic research methods and how to use
the digital research tools at the Hekman library. Over the course
of the semester, RIT students learn through plenary sessions, breakout
sessions lead by faculty from across the disciplines, tutorials,
and workshops that are lead by library staff. Students read an on-line
RIT textbook as well.
