Students - Freshmen Engineering Scholarships

The Engineering Department awards approximately 10 scholarships a year to first- year engineering students with a total awards of over $13,000. Some scholarships are selected by the department based on High school GPA and Financial need. Others require an application. Please review the criteria for each scholarship carefully and send in your application where appropriate.

Alto Precision in Honor of Willis M. Clark Scholarship

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a prospective student planning to enroll full time at Calvin College the following year.
  • Be planning to pursue an Engineering degree.
  • Financial need is required.

Preference will be given to a student from South Christian High School, Grand Rapids, MI. Second preference will be given to a student from Calvin Christian High School, Grandville, MI.

The Andy J. Egan Company Scholarship

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled or planning to enroll as a full time student at Calvin College.
  • Have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher if a prospective first year student. Have a college cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher if a current Calvin College student.

Preference will be given first to children or grandchildren of Andy J. Egan Company employees and second to other students. Preference will also be given to first year students and second to other class levels. Financial need is not required, but may be considered if there are more qualified candidates than there are scholarships available.

The James Bosscher Engineering Scholarship

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an enrolled freshman in the engineering program at Calvin College.
  • Demonstrate outstanding achievement and potential in high school.
  • Special consideration given to North American ethnic minority students.
  • The award is renewable for the sophomore year based on the first year's college performance and continuation in the engineering program.

This Scholarship is renewable.

The James Bosscher SAE Engineering Scholarship

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an enrolled freshman in the engineering program at Calvin College.
  • Demonstrate outstanding achievement and potential in high school.
  • The award is renewable for the sophomore year based on the first year's college performance and continuation in the engineering program.

This scholarship requires an application with SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). Information and application details can be found at http://students.sae.org/awdscholar/scholarships/engscholar/ . Click on the section marked University Sponsored Scholarship's. This Scholarship is renewable.

Please note that there are other scholarships on the SAE website that first-year Calvin engineering students are encouraged to apply for. Review them carefully and apply.

The Frank and Bernice Hiskes Scholarship

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Entering the freshmen or sophomore year at Calvin College
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Pursuing an Engineering degree
  • Some evidence of financial need

The Roger L. and Marcia L. Lamer Family
Engineering Scholarship

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a prospective student planning to enroll full time at Calvin College the following year.
  • Have an ACT composite of 26 or above.
  • Have attended a West Michigan Christian high school.
  • Must demonstrate personal integrity and initiative for success in their field of study.
  • Financial need as defined by government programs is not required, but there should be some evidence that the scholarship is needed to help meet educational expenses.

Preference will be given to students pursuing a Civil Engineering concentration. This scholarship requires an Application Form and Recommendation Form are due on Feb. 28 each year.
