Other Outside Scholarships for Engineering Students

More scholarship opportunities for Calvin students. Our office has been requested to make this information available to current Calvin Engineering students. These are NOT Calvin Scholarships. You need to apply for them individually and read the information carefully. A list of each scholarship with a summary of the criteria is listed below. Please be aware of the individual scholarships deadline.

The Grand Rapids Chapter of Construction Specifications Institute


    1. You are currently or will be enrolled full-time in the 2012-2013 academic year in an accredited college, university or trade school within the State of Michigan with a current minimum 3.0 GPA.
    2. You are or will be pursuing course of study directly related to the construction industry i.e., Architecture, Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction Management/Technology, Facilities Maintenance
    3. Application Deadline is typically due Mid-April. For official information, please refer to The Grand Rapids Chapter of Construction Specifications Institute webpage.

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • African American.
  • Enriiked full-time in any four-year college or university in the U.S.
  • A junior who will be a bachelor's-degree candidate in the 2012-2013 academic year.
  • A student in good standing with a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Apply on-line by December 1, 2012

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Students must be actively pursuing a degree at a U.S. college or university at the time of the abstract deadline (February 11,2013).
  • Full-time, part-time & co-op sstudents (graduate &undergraduate) are eligible.
  • Award winners must present their papers at Dam Safety 2013. (Conference registration fees will be waived for all student attendees).

Guidelines for Submitting Abstracts:

  • Students may submmit extended abstracts of at least, 1,200 words online or by email.
  • Online- Complete the submittal form at "Conferences &Traning."
  • Email- Attach the extended abstract and paper online or detailed summary. Provide in the body of the email message:
    • paper title;
    • name& full contract information for author(s);
    • name of academic institution;
    • academic major &level;
    • notice of intent to present at Dam Safety 2013.

  • To qualify for consideration for an Education Grant, an applicant must be a full or part time student (sophomore, junior, senior or graduade student status) pursuing an engineering or surveying degree and enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering or suveying program.
  • Amounts recieced as scholarships by an individual who is a candidate for a degree are excluded from taxable income if the Grant is used for tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for courses.
  • Applicants are eligible to win twice.

  • ACEC of Michigan annually awards between $7000-$8000 in scholarships.

Undergradyate scholarship for USA and Canadian Citizens in Engineering funded by National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in USA- 2013:

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or other closely related Engineering major)
  • Be currently enrolled full-time in an accredited four-year college or university in the United States or Canada.
  • Plan to be enrolled as a full-time student for the 2012-2013 academic year with sufficient college credits to be classified as a sophomore, junior, or senior.
  • Possess a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a citizen of the United States or Canada.
  • The scholarship is open for the International Students.
  • Scholarship deadline: February 28, 2013.

The Air Force Technical Dgree Sponsorship Program (TDSP) provides an excellent way to earn a paycheck while earning your degree.

  • TDSP is open to undergraduae and graduate students in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering.Occasiionally additional technical career fields such as Environmental Engineering and Meteorology are accepted too.(see your recruiter for complete details.)
  • engineering programs must be a crredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Techonology (ABWT) and technical degrees must be earned through reginally accredited schools.
  • Be enrolled on a continuous basis each academic term with no breaks, to include at least one summer session or full time internship relevant to degree.
  • Must meet specific TDSP deadlines.(see your recruiter for complete details.)
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 34 at the time of commissioning.
  • Possess a minimun 3.0 GPA on a 4-points scale for all college-level studies as well as your academic major.
  • Attain a minum schore of 25 on the verbal and 25 on the quantitative portions of the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test.
  • Provide official transcipts and verification letter from the school, certicied by the unveristy/college registrar.

ACI West Michigan Chapter, Inc. : Academic Scholarships For Construction Students

You are eligible if...

  • You are a junior or senior currently enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university within the State of michigan with a current minimun 3.0 GPA.
  • You are or will be pursuing a course of study directly related to the construction industry i.e., Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management/Technology...
  • This award will consist of a one-time grant of $1,000 to a student enrolled in a course of study related to the consturction industry.
  • Successful recipients will be notified of awards by May 1.
  • The scholarship application must return before midnight on March 1.

  • You are Latino/ Hispanic
  • You are entering the 2012-2013 academic year as a Junior or Senior at a fyour-year unstitution.
  • Majoring in Business AdministrSation (include Procurement and Supply Chain Management), Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Industrial Engineering/technology or Mechanical Engineering.

You are eligible if...

  • You are a Women
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in a transportation- related field, such as transportation engineering, planning, finance or logistics in the state of Michigan.
  • Plans to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.
  • Applicants for the Molitoris Leadership Scholarship are ask to specifically address the issue of leadership on their personal statement.

Michigan Stormwater-Floodplain Association Scholarship (MSFA)

MSFA's goals:

  1. Reduce the loss of human life and property demage resulting from flodding.
  2. Preserve the natural and cultural values of floodplains.
  3. Promote flood mitigation to prevent the loss and encourage wise use of floodplains.
  4. Avoid actions that exacerbate flooding and or stream degradation.
  5. Promote a watershed approach to stormwater management.
  6. Promote the use of best management practices to minimize accelerated erosion and control sedimentation.

You are eligible if...

  • Full time Junior, Senior or Graduate Student in Biosystems, Civi, or Engironmental Engineering, or related Natural Resources Planning program witha specialization realted to the mission and goals of the MSFA at a Michigan University.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above at the end of Spring Semester.

HS-STEM Summer Internship Program:

  • 10 weeks research experience; $5,000 stipend plus travel expenses.
