ASME

Calvin's ASME chapter is a student section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Students elect officers who serve with a faculty advisor on an executive committee. Calvin's ASME student chapter strives to introduce and expose students to engineering in a professional setting. They encourage students to begin networking with engineering professionals. To accomplish these goals the committee promotes student involvement with the local ASME sections.

The committee also works to organize tours that give students an opportunity to see Mechanical Engineering in action. A highlight within the past year was a tour of the Eaton Vehicle Proving Grounds, including a military test hill grade of 60% for all-terrain vehicles. We have also attended a lecture related to the testing of Indy race cars given from a driver's perspective. Most recently we toured the Saturn Research and Development plant in Troy, Michigan. In these activities as well as others, Calvin's ASME Student Chapter attempts to increase the student's exposure to engineering in the industrial world.
