Settling Tank
The team recommends that a settling box, as seen in the following figure, be constructed at the base of the capturing system of the spring.

The settling tank is to collect the water from the 3” PVC pipe connected at “Y” connection. The catchment has been sized to settle out sand and silt from the system with a detention time of 20 minutes. The settling box is to be built out of concrete and will contain an overflow pipe. The lid is heavy enough (approx 150lbs) so that children will not be able to remove it and contaminate the system. The lid on the box is removable since it will require cleaning a couple times each year. To clean the box the lid must be removed and the cap placed on the inlet pipe to stop the flow of water into the box. The water and dirt can then be removed. The cap is then taken off and the lid replaced.
