Project Summary
• Desalination of brackish groundwater using Reverse Osmosis and Electrodialysis Reversal is expensive
• Certain metals found in brackish groudwater build up on desalination membranes
• Brackish groundwater is found in many regions, including New Mexico
• Pretreatment by removing aluminum, iron, and manganese from the brackish water before desalination could reduce desalination costs
• Built a bench-scale model for our proposed full-scale pretreatment process
• Process is simple and energy efficient so it can be used in rural areas
