Vecht River

Historically the Vecht river was an important axis for land reclamation. Villages located on the river's natural levees organized the reclamation of adjacent bog lands. Later, wealthy Amsterdam merchants built rural estates along the river taking advantage of its scenic resources and water transport.  Today, the Vecht has become an important tourist area (pleasure boating, historic villages, and country estates).  The excursion proceeds along the Vecht from Utrecht and make stops at noteworthy sites.
