To better understand and appreciate Dutch culture, students will spend part of the first weekend with a Dutch family. Half of the students stay with families in the town of Aduard and the others stay in the city of Groningen. All arrangements are made by the course instructors with the help of local contacts. The students are dropped off (mostly in pairs) on Saturday afternoon and picked up on Monday morning. The students spend two nights at the family homes, attend church with the family, and join them for several meals. The students in Aduard are treated to a potluck meal of traditional Dutch food on Saturday night.
