17th Century Drained Lakes |
In the 17th century the Dutch developed new land north of Amsterdam by pumping water out of lakes in the low western Netherlands. This was done by first constructing a ring canal surrounding the lake. Next windmills where used to pump water out of the lakes, into the ring canal and on to the sea. We will tour this region and visit a working windmill.
