Present: Charles Adams (Dordt College); Ethan Brue (Dordt College); Fred Driscoll (Wentworth Institute of Technology); Gayle Ermer (Calvin College); George Facas (The College of New Jersey); Jim Farison (Baylor University); Joan Gosink (Colorado School of Mines); Steve Vanderleest (Calvin College); Nolan VanGaalan (Dordt College).
It was announced that on Sunday, 06/20/04, ASEE leadership had approved the concept of assuming the role of "Lead Society" for "EAC Programs in engineering (without modifiers), engineering physics, and engineering science(s), and for TAC Programs in engineering technology (without modifiers)." The ASEE leadership would develop and present a petition for this status to ABET within the next few months.
Discussion focused on how MECC could support and forward this effort. It was agreed to contact Ed Jones for this information. (Ed later said that he would contact us when the paperwork was prepared.) Joan Gosink was asked to serve on an ASEE implementation committee when the petition was approved by ABET.
The question of evolving MECC into a division was discussed. Apparently 200
persons are required for a constituent committee to become a
division. MECC is close to this number. Participants were urged to announce
this at the MECC sessions, and to encourage attendees to formally join the MECC.
A nominating committee was formed to recommend candidates for Chair, Program
Chair, and Secretary/Treasurer. The members are Fred Driscoll,
Steve Vanderleest, and Joan Gosink as out-going Chair. Ed Jones was also to
be asked to participate.
