Dr. VanderLeest obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1995. While working on his doctoral degree he was a graduate research assistant at the Center for Reliable and High-Performance Computing at the University of Illinois at Urbana. He has been a graduate teaching assistant at Michigan Technological University. He has participated in the Outstanding Student Summer Program in Engineering and Science at Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, NM.

Professional experience

VanderLeest has consulted with DornerWorks, Ltd, in the area of embedded systems engineering, Tandem Computers, Inc. in the area of performance evaluation; Smiths Aerospace in the areas of digital design, software engineering, intranet web development, and ASIC design; and for Laser Alignment in areas of laser and direction control.

Publications

He has published several papers in the area of I/O performance measurement and evaluation. He has published in the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) proceedings, and is an officer of the Liberal Education Division and Multidisciplinary Engineering Division of the ASEE.

Memberships

He is a member of the steering committee for the Christian Engineering Education Conference (CEEC) and was general chair of their most recent conference.
