Educational background

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering
Michigan State University, 1994

Dr. Ermer graduated from Calvin College with a B.S.E. in 1986 concentrating in Mechanical Engineering. She practiced engineering design during a summer internship at Laser Alignment, in Grand Rapids, MI in 1986. She earned an M.S. in Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1987 and completed her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1994.

Professional experience

She has taught dynamic systems and controls courses at MSU and kinematics at Wichita State University. Her areas of interest are in design for manufacturing and manufacturing quality issues, as well as dynamic system analysis, design, and control, especially Bond Graph Modeling. Since 1994 she has served and continues to serve as an assistant professor in the engineering department at Calvin College. She teaches courses in materials science, manufacturing processes, and machine dynamics. During the summer of 1997 she worked with Prof. Richard DeJong on Ford projects involving vibration and acoustics.
