The All-MIAA menís tennis teams have been announced and three members of the MIAA tri-champion Calvin menís tennis team have been so honored. Seniors Brian DeMaagd and Preston Phillips have been named to the All-MIAA first team while senior Philip Reinken has been named to the second team.

In addition, DeMaagd has been named the recipient of the MIAAís Lawrence Greet Scholar-Athlete Award. DeMaagd is the fifth individual in Calvin menís tennis history to receive the honor. Jeff Admiral was the first recipient from Calvin in 1994 followed by Dan Meester in 1995, Jon VanderArk in 1997 and Ricky Tilton in 2008. The award is based on academic performance in memory of the late Lawrence ďDocĒ Green, physical educator, athletic trainer and coach at Hope College.

A native of Grandville and a graduate of Grandville Calvin Christian High School, DeMaagd is making his second straight appearance on the All-MIAA first team. He was 4-2 at No. 1 singles during the MIAA regular season and was also part of a double team with Loukas Peterson that was 5-1 against opponents in MIAA regular season play.

A native of Bexley, Ohio, Phillips (Bexley High School) is receiving All-MIAA first team honors for the first time. Phillips played at No. 2 singles for the Knights this spring was 5-1 against opponents in league play. He also teamed up with Phil Reinken in doubles, recording an MIAA doubles mark of 5-1.

Reinken (Morton, IL/Morton HS) is a member of the All-MIAA second team for the first time. He was Calvinís No. 3 singles player this spring. He was 8-8 overall in singles play including 2-4 against league opponents.

As a team, Calvin finished the 2013 season with a dual match won-loss record of 14-5 and an MIAA dual match mark of 5-1. Calvin was part of a three-way MIAA crown as Hope and Kalamazoo also finished 5-1. During the year, Calvin defeated Kalamazoo in a dual match for the first time. The Knights later reached the MIAA tournament finals before falling to Kalamazoo 6-1.
