If you know of a good location for 10-20 people for dinner in Nashville, or have a local contact we could use, let us know! ASA Call For Papers =================== Dear Friends, At the ASA's annual meeting at Colorado Christian University next July 25 to 26, the Christian Engineers and Scientists in Technology affiliation plans to hold a session focusing on work in technology and how it relates to Christian faith. We want YOU to consider presenting a paper at this conference. ASA members received the conference call for papers by early November (see attached file). This email is to emphasize the call for papers for the "Technology Developments and Applications from a Christian Perspective" session. A written paper is not required, but a written abstract of 250 words is required by January 31, 2003. Here are some possible subjects for discussion. This is NOT an exhaustive list. Surely something YOU are doing would be of interest to us! Networking of Christians in the workplace and at professional meetings Evangelism in the workplace Ethical issues of scientists and engineers engaged in technology development Philosophical issues: e.g does the Bible support or oppose modern technologies? Real-life experiences of whistleblowers engaged in technology development Conflicts in religion and science encountered in technology development Christian approaches to conflicts between environmentalism and technology Use of technology solutions for environmental problems Differences in challenges to Christians engaged in technology but working in industry vs. universities vs. government organizations Ethical problems in developing regulations on technology -- e.g the Precautionary Principle vs. safety standards. Impact of specific technologies on Christian world views: e.g., energy sources, transportation systems, information technology, population control, medical technology, space technology, food technology, drug technology, oceanic engineering, etc. Other Technologies and issues that could be noted: Global warming, endangered species, EM energy, population control, acid rain, nuclear energy, genetic engineering, space exploration, transportation technology, etc. Please submit your abstracts to ASA per the enclosed general Call for Papers for the ASA meeting. Please note on your abstract that you believe your paper belongs in the CEST session.
