Charleston Southern University invites applications for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher, commensurate with experience) to begin August 1, 2008. The qualified candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. in Engineering, or a Ph.D. in Physics or Applied Mathematics with a strong Engineering background. Preference will be given to candidates with a Mechanical Engineering background.  A candidate with a Master's degree in Engineering or Physics will also be considered. The ideal candidate will be qualified to teach courses in both introductory Physics (and/or Physical Sciences) and introductory Engineering. The ideal candidate will be expected to fulfill the following duties:

1.     Develop and teach beginning courses for Mechanical Engineering (or closely related Engineering fields), including Statics, Dynamics and Fundamentals of Thermodynamics.
2.     Teach other introductory Physics or Mathematics courses, including (but not limited to) General Physics I and II, College Algebra, PreCalculus, and Engineering Calculus.
3.     Assist in the establishing and maintaining of articulation agreements with institutions having ABET accredited Engineering programs.
4.  Support the continuing development of initiatives and curriculum that integrates the Christian faith into all areas of the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

[Posted 1 April 2008] Electrical & Computer Engineering Term Appointment

The Department of Engineering of Calvin College seeks to fill a one-year term position, starting in February, 2009.  Candidates should have an earned master’s degree in engineering.  Candidate must be committed to integration of Christian faith and learning and to the mission of the college within the Reformed tradition of Christianity.  Candidate should be capable of teaching courses in the Electrical & Computer concentration of our program, particularly ENGR204, ENGR307, ENGR315.  Course descriptions can be found in the course catalog: http://www.calvin.edu/admin/registrar/catalog/07-08/0708124-136.pdf.  Faculty are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship. To start:   March 08 for 3 months. An experienced structural engineer is required to provide expertise and experience to a programme of retrofitting to increase the current level of seismic resilience of some homes constructed in Aceh, Indonesia following recommendations from a recent technical review.  The position will provide structural engineering advice and oversight to construction projects in the form of design, review and analysis of structural/construction drawings, project supervision and ensuring implementation of technical and humanitarian standards and specifications. The post holder will ensure quality/quantity of construction materials, monitoring and reporting. Finco, Inc. (www.straightlinehdd.com), a design, manufacturer and marketing company serving the Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) community worldwide is seeking a Lead Engineer. Finco, Inc. currently employs approximately 50 people at its facility in Hutchinson, KS. The company designs and manufactures a wide variety of HDD related products including wear parts, down hole tools, as well as equipment. This position is part of the Senior Management team and as such strong team skills are a must.

[Posted 24 Oct 2007] Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Science

The King’s College invites applicants for the position of assistant professor of mathematics and science in the College’s interdisciplinary undergraduate Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) core curriculum. The position is available August 1, 2008. A Ph.D. in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field is required.

This is a teaching-intensive position. All students at the College are required to take Calculus or Precalculus and Statistics.  In fall 2009, all students will be required to take Scientific Reasoning.  Science, Technology, and Culture, an elective course, will also be offered in the 2009/2010 academic year. The College is seeking to expand its elective courses and may consider offering additional courses within the applicant’s specialty.

The King’s College is a very small, highly selective, Christian college in the Empire State Building. The College is non-denominational but requires faculty members to sign a statement of faith. The College prepares students for careers in which they will help to shape strategic public and private institutions.
