Professor Wunder is concerned with water and wastewater treatment applications for both developed and developing global regions. Research projects have focused on:

  • antibiotics in drinking water biological filtration processes
  • bagasse charcoal for water treatment in developing countries
  • drinking water residuals in wastewater treatment processes
  • point-of-use drinking water treatment devices (for backcountry and developing regions)

Also, Dr. Wunder consults as a senior process engineer for varied regional water treatment projects, with recent efforts focused on energy use minimization, biogas generation, and system-wide optimization of treatment capacity and storage.

Prior to joining Calvin’s faculty in 2004, Professor Wunder worked for 10 years as an environmental engineer providing support and guidance with conventional and novel treatment applications for municipal and industrial enterprises throughout the US. He also has professional experience in planning and assessment of water resource systems in urban and rural settings.
