City of Wyoming Clean Water Plant

The City of Wyoming, Michigan operates a wastewater treatment plant that treats an average of sixteen million gallons per day. Currently, they use chlorine disinfection for tertiary treatment; however, they are considering switching to ultraviolet disinfection due to the transportation and safety concerns with chlorine. Another concern of the city is that the amount of dissolved oxygen in the effluent stream entering the Grand River does not meet permit requirements during certain wet weather events.

This project addressed both concerns through a preliminary design of a UV disinfection, as well as incorporating advanced oxidation and a cost analysis of the proposed design.

To create a preliminary design for tertiary treatment at the Wyoming Clean Water Plant in Wyoming, MI. This treatment will include UV disinfection, advanced oxidation, and reaeration of the water before it is discharged to the Grand River. The team will also analyze the possible use of existing structures on site.
