Rear-View

Problem Definition:

A study done by Kettering University has shown that exterior side view mirrors can account for nearly 8.5 % of total drag produced by semi trucks on the road today. Considering the economic and political climate of our country today, fuel efficiency and fuel savings are becoming increasingly important to our govenment and fellow citizens. Regulations are begining to tighten on fuel economy and use, while the demand for use of these trucks continues to increase. Our goal for this senior design project is to take a step toward better fuel efficiency and reducing fuel consumption.

Project Description:

As a team we will be studying the effect of removing side view mirrors and replacing them with a rear-view camera monitoring systme. This system will replace existing conventional mirrors with cameras increasing safety and fuel economy while reducing carbon emissions, and fuel costs. Through research and testing, data will be collected in order to judge the effectiveness of our project.
