CPR and First AidThe State of Michigan requires CPR and First Aid training for all candidates seeking initial teacher certification. Therefore, Calvin will not be able to recommend a person for certification unless he or she has successfully completed approved courses in CPR and First Aid that includes both adult and child CPR. Students must complete this requirement prior to the beginning of the student teaching semester. If students need to complete an additional semester after student teaching, they must complete this requirement prior to the beginning of their final semester at Calvin. We strongly recommend that you complete this requirement at Calvin (see details below). If this is not possible, several courses are available off-campus - visit the Health Education Associates website or view the list of State-Approved Providers for details. The CPR card is only valid for one year, so the course should not be taken more than one year prior to one's initial certification date/graduation. Students who take a CPR/First Aid class at a location other than Calvin College need to mail, fax, or drop off copies of their cards to the Education Department. Calvin will be offering several CPR/First Aid sessions on campus during the fall and spring semesters. Students only need to attend one session. HPERDS Professor Bakker will be conducting the course, which is American Red Cross approved. Location:
