Renewing the Michigan Teaching Certificate

First, determine which renewal option you need based on the
Certificate Renewal Chart
. Then, if you completed your 9 or 18 semester hours in a program at Calvin, print and complete the appropriate forms below:

If you completed your 9 or 18 semester hours at a different institution in Michigan, contact the appropriate Certification Officer for assistance.

If you completed your 9 or 18 semester hours at an institution in another state or country, apply directly to the Michigan Department of Education. Complete the Renewal of Provisional Certificate or Out-of-State Provisional/Professional Education Certificate form.

New Laws:

After July 1, 2009, all applicants for the Professional Certificate must have completed a 3-credit course of study in the diagnosis and remediation of reading disabilities and differentiated instruction. Click here to view the list of state-approved courses. Any of the courses on the list will apply toward this new requirement, regardless of where the applicant completed the 9 or 18 semester hours.

PA 144 increased teaching certificate fees to $100 for the Provisional renewal, $160 for the Professional certificate, and $160 for the Professional renewal.
