Programs - Middle School

The State of Michigan certifies teachers at either the elementary or secondary level:

Elementary: Grades K-5 and Grades 6-8 in the major and minor subjects

Secondary: Grades 6-12 in the major and minor subjects

If you are interested in middle school, you will need to choose either an elementary or secondary program. Note that some majors and minors are only available at the elementary or secondary level. Some subjects can also be certified K-12 (Special Education, Physical Education, Visual Arts, Music, Spanish, French). If you think you might teach in a particular state after graduating, find out which option would best prepare you for middle school teaching in that state. An advisor from the Education Department can help you decide which program is best for you.
