If you are thinking of becoming a teacher, you have probably been inspired by a good teacher you had who made a subject come alive.Outstanding teachers are unique, and their impact on students is immeasurable.

Students in the Elementary Education Program earn certification in grades K-5, all subjects, and grades 6-8 in their major and minor subject areas. An early childhood endorsement is also available for grades
PreK - 2.

The elementary education program can be completed in four years with careful planning. It is helpful if students choose core courses recommended for elementary education, decide early which levels and subjects they would like to teach, have high school exemptions, and are willing to take summer courses.

Students typically spend the first year completing core courses. Be sure to consult the list of recommended core courses for students interested in elementary education.

During the second year, it's important to begin choosing major and minor subject areas. Elementary education students may choose a major and a minor OR three minors. One of the minors may be a "planned" minor comprised of core courses. Most students in the elementary program choose the three minor program because it provides the broadest preparation for classroom instruction. In addition, it allows you to be certified in at least two areas for middle school instruction.

During the final two years, students complete education courses and major and minor courses. Students finish the program by completing a full semester of student teaching.
