Elementary Education: Majors and Minors

Elementary candidates will be certified to teach grades K-5 all subjects, grades 6-8 all subjects in a self-contained class, and the major/minor subjects in grades 6-8 in Michigan. K-12 French, Spanish, and Special Education majors are also available to elementary candidates. When you have determined your major and/or minors, complete the Declaration form for the Registrar's Office.
Major/minor combinations are limited to the following options:
Option 1: Choose one major or two minors from List A.
Option 2: Complete one minor from List B and one minor from List C.
Option 3: Complete a minor from List C in addition to one major or two minors from List A.

Bilingual Education, Early Childhood Education, ESL and Special Education are all endorsement programs that prepare students to teach in specialized classroom settings. Students need to meet with advisors from these programs as soon as possible in order to do efficient planning.
