As part of the Michigan State University (MSU) Grand Rapids Public School (GRPS) Institute for Learning (IFL) evaluation team I observed literacy coach consultations with teachers, observed classroom implementation of lessons, conducted interviews with administrators, coaches, teachers, and students and reported those findings to the team. As a team we compiled a report for GRPS detailing the implementation of IFL's training. This work will continue in some form in the coming year. |

New standards for early childhood preparation programs have required revision of our early childhood program I have been working on a revision of the Early Childhood minor at Calvin; I was granted a course release for Interim, 2010, to work on this project. The Education Department's Undergraduate Professional Development and Assessment committee, The Education Department, and the Teacher Education Committee have worked with me to develop a proposal for an Early Childhood Major. The major entails a considerable revision of EDUC 339 and the addition of three new courses in order to meet the state standards. Fortunately, these changes can be made with minimal change in resource allocation in the Education Department and the college. The proposal will go to EPC in September, 2010. New programs must be submitted to the State of Michigan November 1, 2010. This year, revising the proposal and preparing an application for the State of Michigan have consumed the time I would otherwise use for writing and submitting publications |

As part of the leadership team for EDUC 345 (the student teaching semester), my colleagues and I are involved in three significant ventures: 1) We are investigating the co-teaching model for student and cooperating teachers - a model increasingly being adopted in elementary schools 2) We are bringing cooperating teachers onto campus to serve in an advising capacity 3) We are working jointly with our elementary supervisors, our secondary supervisors and our advising teachers to develop a new assessment tool for student teachers 4) We continue to assess how to facilitate growth of students and ourselves in meeting the needs of diverse learners |
