Summer Internships

Academics / Departments & Programs / Congregational & Ministry Studies / Jubilee Fellows / Summer Internships

Jubilee Fellows serve for 10 weeks during the summer in congregations primarily in Michigan. We match students with the internship sites, taking into consideration the individual interests of the Jubilee Fellows and the needs of the churches. Their internship responsibilities can include:

  • planning summer programs or outreach efforts
  • preaching
  • teaching adult education, Sunday school, or small groups
  • making pastoral care visits
  • planning and leading worship

A pastor or other full-time staff member from each church commits to mentoring the student, encouraging his or her personal, professional and spiritual growth. The summer internships are often the highlight of the Jubilee Fellows' experience. "I feel much more prepared for ministry. This is a great experience for anybody who wants more experience volunteering in the church," commented former Jubilee Fellow Sarah Barney,  "Everybody can serve and everybody should serve in some capacity."

Summer internship placements

We work closely with each student to learn about his or her vocational goals. The final decision for internship placement is made by the Program Coordinator, but we work together to ensure it is a place where the student will learn, grow, and be challenged and encouraged by his or her experiences.

In the sidebar (right) you'll find a list of the internship sites for the 2023, 2022, and 2021 Fellows. We have a few churches who have hosted students for many years because they provide such an outstanding experience for our Jubilee Fellows; but we are also open to exploring new internship sites each year, based on the interests of our Jubilee Fellows.

We are always open to connecting with pastors and congregations and exploring internship possibilities. If you are a pastor, or have one you'd recommend, please contact the Program Coordinator, Cindy DeBoer.
