Jubilee Fellows: Summer Internships

Jubilee Fellows serve across North America

Jubilee Fellows serve for 10 weeks during the summer in top-notch congregations across North America. We match students with the internship sites, taking into consideration the individual interests of the Jubilee Fellows and the needs of the churches. Their internship responsibilities can include:

  • planning summer programs
  • preaching
  • teaching
  • making pastoral visits
  • planning and leading worship
  • and much more

A pastor or other full-time staff member from each church commits to mentoring the student, encouraging his or her personal, professional and spiritual growth. The summer internships are often the highlight of the Jubilee Fellows' experience. "I feel much more ready for ministry now than I did at the beginning of this internship," commented former Jubilee Fellow Sarah Stripp. "I gained a lot of skills and insights throughout this summer that have deepened my understanding of what ministry is like."

Summer internship placements

Nathan GroenewoldWe work closely with each student to learn about his or her vocational goals. The final decision for internship placement is made by the Program Coordinator, but we work together to ensure that it is a place where the student will learn, grow, and be challenged and encouraged by his or her experiences.

In the sidebar (right) you'll find a list of the internship sites for the 2015 Fellows. Feel free to browse the churches' websites to get a feel for the types of communities in which our students serve. We have a few churches who have hosted students for many years, because they provide such an outstanding experience for our Jubilee Fellows; but we are also open to exploring new internship sites each year, based on the interests of our Jubilee Fellows.

Program Coodinator Kary Bosma contributes in an article Internships: Churches Make Room for People to Serve and Learn in Ministry. Whether you're a student or a mentor, you'll find insights into what an internship might look like.

Also, former Jubilee Fellow Nicole Veenkamp shares her reflections on finding home during her summer internship.
