Jubilee Fellows: Summer Internships

Jubilee Fellows serve across North America

Jubilee Fellows serve for 10 weeks during the summer in top-notch congregations across North America. We match students with the internship sites, taking into consideration the individual interests of the Jubilee Fellows and the needs of the churches. Their internship responsibilities can include:

  • planning summer programs
  • preaching
  • teaching
  • making pastoral visits
  • planning and leading worship
  • and much more

A pastor or other full-time staff member from each church commits to mentoring the student, encouraging his or her personal, professional and spiritual growth. The summer internships are often the highlight of the Jubilee Fellows' experience.

Summer internship placements

We work closely with each student to determine his or her vocational goals and any particular preferences we should consider, such as ministry focus, denomination, etc. While the final decision for internship placement is made by the Program Coordinator, we work together to ensure that it is a place where the student will learn, grow, and be challenged and encouraged by his or her experiences.

In the sidebar (right) you'll find a list of the 2012 Fellows and where they served this summer. Feel free to browse the churches' websites to get a feel for the types of communities in which our students serve. We have a few churches who have hosted students for many years, because they provide such an outstanding experience for our Jubilee Fellows; but we are also open to exploring new internship sites each year, based on the interests of our Jubilee Fellows.

Program Coodinator Kary Bosma contributes in an article Internships: Churches Make Room for People to Serve and Learn in Ministry. Whether you're a student or a mentor, you'll find insights into what an internship might look like.

Also, 2011 Jubilee Fellow Nicole Veenkamp shares her reflections on finding home during her summer internship.
