The lower terrace, the palaestra, was a square lined with
colonnades and had rooms on two sides. Here, the athletes could change
and warm up. It was located in the rectangular area in the bottom
right corner of the photo below.
To the west is a square with three steps leading to a pool, in which the
athletes could swim. Water spouts and baths were located against a far
wall. Roman warm baths were added a short distance away later in the
second century.
