In this area, the Treasury of the Thebans and the Treasury of
the Boeotians once stood. The sacred way now begins to turn in a
semi-circle. Another long road branches off to the western gate.
Here stands the Treasury of the Athenians, a Doric treasury which
has been restored in modern times by the city of Athens. 24 of the original metopes, which depict the Labors of Heracles
and Theseus as well as the Amazonomachy, have been recovered.
Additionally, two hymns to Apollo were found inscribed
upon its walls. The original treasury was built around 500
BC.
Next to the treasury are the foundations of the Bouleuterion, seat
of the 15 members of the Delphic senate. Across the way from the Treasury
are a few remains of the former Treasury of the Syracusans and the
Treasury of the Knidians, built in Parian marble. Another road
leads east to the Treasury of Cyrene.
