A paved square, built in Roman times, serves as an entrance to the
Temenos. This area, once lined with stoas and shops, opens onto the
Sacred Way which leads up the slope in two turns to its final
destination, the Temple of Apollo. The Way was paved during Roman
times, and some of this paving still remains. On either side of the
Sacred Way along its route stand many structures and monuments.
