Overseas Study and Internships - Summer Internships in Asia

Every summer Calvin College has given between six and twelve students of Asian languages and cultures the opportunity to do an internship of their choice in either China, Japan, or Korea. The funding for this was made possible by a large grant Calvin received to enhance its Asian Studies program. Internships are for approximately two months of the summer.
Round-trip airfare is paid by the college and students are given a living stipend of $1200. Housing is made very affordable, or it is provided by the host institution in some cases.

A few of the many internship possibilities include:

  1. Work for the city government of Hikone, Japan. Interns help staff the International Visitor ’s Center there as well as doing English language editing of tourist brochures and other publications. Homestays are provided with Japanese families.

  2. Teach English for the Reformed Churches in the greater Tokyo area. Homestays are provided with Japanese families.

  3. Teach English at a private high school in Yantai, China, a coastal city in the northeast. Free housing provided at the school.
