Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a secondary education chemistry major, you must complete the following courses:

  • Chemistry 103 and 104 - General Chemistry I, II
  • Chemistry 201 - Analytical Chemistry
  • One of the following course sequences:
    • Chemistry 253 - Fundamentals of Organic Chemistry (recommended)
    • Chemistry 262 - Organic Chemistry II
  • One of the following two courses:
    • Chemistry 304 - Physical Chemistry for the Biological Sciences (recommended)
    • Chemistry 317 - Physical Chemistry I
  • One of the following two courses:
    • Chemistry 303 - Fundamentals of Biochemistry (recommended)
    • Chemistry 323 - Biochemistry I
  • One of the following courses:
    • Chemistry 261 - Organic Chemistry I
    • Chemistry 271 - Environmental Chemistry
    • Chemistry 318 - Physical Chemistry II
    • Chemistry 324 - Biochemistry II
    • Chemistry 325 - Advanced Organic Chemistry
    • Chemistry 329 - Instrumental Methods for Chemical and Biological Science
    • Chemistry 330 - Advanced Inorganic Chemistry
  • Chemistry 295 - Chemistry Seminar (three semesters)
  • SCES 359 - Seminar in Secondary Teaching of Integrated Science (capstone)

Integrated science studies major - secondary education

Requirements

This is the preferred program for all secondary education students wishing to obtain teaching certification in all the sciences. Students pursuing this major must also complete a minor in one of the four science disciplines (biology, chemistry, earth/space science, or physics). Courses in the disciplinary minor may overlap with the courses required for the Integrated science studies major. All the courses listed for the science minor must be completed.
