Welcome

Dr. Quentin SchultzeThanks for visiting the Gainey Institute website. One recent project is a multimedia website with audio and video clips that illustrate the principles of faithful public speaking, which we call "servant speaking." Another one is a book on suburban church ministry. A third one is a major book (40 authors, 100 essays) on evangelicals and the media, from evangelical comic books and blogs to broadcasting and international media. The related website and includes many additional resources.

History and Purpose

Calvin College launched the Gainey Institute for Faith and Communication in 2005 with a generous commitment from Harvey and Ereveene Gainey, who have partnered with the college to nurture well-educated, highly skilled, and deeply ethical Christian leaders who communicate faithfully in church and society.

The Institute promotes the study, practice, and living of communication in the context of the Christian faith by partnering with individuals and organizations that share its goals. It serves primarily four groups:

  • Christian scholars and teachers of communication,
  • lay and professional Christian communicators,
  • future Christian leaders, and
  • Christian communicators in the worldwide church.

Activities sponsored by the Institute include publications, conferences, workshops, credit and non-credit courses for professionals and students, fellowships, scholarships, and private (i.e., non-public) research and consultations. Please subscribe to our email list (privacy protected) for occasional notes about upcoming events and special funding, scholarship, and fellowship opportunities.

Dr. Quentin J. Schultze serves as Executive Director of the Gainey Institute for Faith and Communication as well as the Arthur H. DeKruyter Chair in Faith and Communication at Calvin College.
