Jordan Horras (Mass Media/Film Studies '07) Reports that he has been working as a Studio Camera Operator and studio production assistant for the Big Ten Network which broadcasts and reports on all Big Ten school sports. [09/19/07] Mieke Jones (Film Studies '06) reports that she just finished working as Jeannine Oppewal's assistant for reshoots of scenes for "The Good Shepherd," a Robert DeNiro film starring DeNiro, Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, and Joe Pesci. [9/18/06] Joe Kawano (Film Studies '06), along with a fellow Calvin student and his fiancee, was blessed to begin a video production company - iTrain Learning Systems. Wolff (Film Studies '06) reports that, "After a year of working at WZZM 13, I've been promoted to the Weekend Morning producer. It is a huge undertaking, but I feel prepared for the task because of the work ethic instilled in me at Calvin." [09/04/07] Stephen Swanson (Film Studies '01) has just completed his doctorate in American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University. He has accepted a position teaching English at Penn State - Erie. Steve and his wife, Jenna ('03), are expecting their first child in January. [7/06/07] Aaron B. Smith (Film Studies '99) was recently honored with a Reel Spirituality/Los Angeles Film Studies Center (LAFSC) Film Award during the annual Reel Spirituality conference in Los Angeles, California. On October 21, 2006, Smith’s film Loaded was featured during a special day-long series of workshops, “Reel Spirituality 101: Unpacking Movies and their Meaning,” which were held at Pepperdine University in Malibu. Barry Taylor, film composer and adjunct professor of popular culture and theology at Fuller Theological Seminary, led a discussion on the importance of music and sound design in cinema, using Smith’s award-winning Loaded as an example of excellence in those aspects of filmmaking craft.
