News: Sister Helen Prejean (Dead Man Walking) lecture on Jan. 11 | |||||||||||||||
Plan now to attend a special evening lecture by Sister Helen Prejean on Thursday, January 11, at 7:30 in the chapel. Sister Helen is best known for her book Dead Man Walking: An Eyewitness Account of the Death Penalty in the United States , which has been the basis for a movie, a stage play, and an opera. She is also the author of The Death of Innocents: An Eyewitness Account of Wrongful Executions, in which she tells the story of two men whom she accompanied to execution and whom she believes to have been innocent. In addition to her work with death row inmates, Sister Helen is also the founder of "Survive," a victim's advocacy group in New Orleans that gives support to the families of murder victims. She is a powerful and compassionate speaker with an important story. You will not want to miss this lecture. Co-sponsored by the Dean of the Chapel, the CAS Department, the Calvin Institute for Christian Worship, and the Criminal Justice Chaplaincy.
