GDR Posters: 1949-1989


The poster for Stalinís 70th birthday in 1949. The text translates as: “The leader and teacher of humanity in the fight for peace, democracy and socialism.”
Stalin poster The poster for Stalinís 73rd birthday in 1952. The text translates as: “Long live the standard bearer of peace. the best friend of the German people.”
FDJ poster This poster from 1952 urgers learning about the Soviet Union. The caption: “Studied during the second FDJ school year: the priceless experiences of Soviet people in building communism .” The FDJ was the “Free German Youth,” the GDRís organization for the young.
V. SED Parteitag posterr The V. Party Congress of the East German Communist Party (the SED) was held in 1958. The caption: “Socialism is winning.”
1958 May Day poster May Day 1958. The caption: “United socialists are defeating militarists.” A huge worker takes care of the enemies of socialism.
