The Calvin Theatre Company is a self-contained theatre production group made up of some 80 to 90 students from a wide variety of majors across campus. Patterned after the Body of Christ, in which all of the members are necessary, we are a community of Christian artists striving to know and reveal the joy of the creative process. This is the heart of Calvin's theatre program.  Some students participate as a hobby, while others major in theatre in order to pursue it as a career. Our theatre graduates work professionally in all aspects of production in theatres across the country. Many also go on to graduate school.

Calvin students have opportunity to take a variety of classes in theatre and participate in all areas of theatrical production, both on stage and behind the scenes. All of our work is done in a thoughtful Christian context; a context in which we seek to understand the human condition in light of God's Word and in which we seek to develop our talents to His glory and honor. Theatre is enacted image that enables us to know ourselves and to learn more about others. Theatre at Calvin College seeks to capture the imagination of both audience and actors, and all those who are willing to open their hearts and minds to the lives of fictive characters on the stage.

Each season, CTC produces a wide range of challenging shows. Recent productions include The Women of Lockerbie, Alice In Wonderland, Godspell, The Lady’s Not for Burning, Dead Man Walking and Sense and Sensibility.  We choose plays that are not only great works of drama, but those that have potential for renewal of God’s creation as well as present a positive force for social and cultural change.

Calvin has wonderful theatre facilities including two theatres; the intimate 322-seat Gezon Theatre, and the sixty foot square, flexible Lab Theatre, as well as fully outfitted costume shop and scene shop facilities. Our faculty and staff consists of highly trained professionals who take a genuine interest in individual students.

Through the countless gifts of students and faculty alike, the Calvin Theatre Company strives to bring our audience superb theatrical productions that will tickle the fancy, invoke thought, and touch the heart.
