The Grand Awards

The Grand Awards, sponsored by Fox 17 and The Grand Rapids Community Foundation, are now in their eleventh year. Modeled on the New York Tony awards, the Grand Awards celebration takes place in early October, and recognizes the theatrical productions and performances of the previous season in the Grand Rapids community.

The awards are given to both community and college theatres. Their practical purpose is to raise money for a theatre scholarship given each year to a student or young person who has done outstanding work in both college and in the community, and who intends to further their studies or career in some aspect of theatrical production.

For the last few years Calvin College has been strongly represented in both nominations and awards, and this year is no exception. Calvin received five nominations for the 2006-2007 season.

2006 - 2007 College Grand Award nominations:

Outstanding Production
Dead Man Walking (directed by Michael Page)

Outstanding Lead Actor
Woodrow Dixon in Dead Man Walking
Brad Irish in The Lady's Not for Burning

Outstanding Lead Actress
