Matt Miller '97
After graduating from Calvin, I bummed around the country doing the itinerant acting thing for a bit, working for Sea World, Cleveland and several small touring companies. I moved to Chicago in 1999 and have gradually shifted my focus to casting and directing.
For the past five years I have been employed as an associate casting director for Tenner Paskal & Rudnicke Casting, where I have worked on the Chicago casting for many films, including The Weatherman, The Amityville Horror, The Ice Harvest, Stranger Than Fiction, Let's Go To Prison!, The Break Up, The Promotion, The Express and Public Enemies. I have been privileged to work with directors like Harold Ramis, Gore Verbinski, Bob Odenkirk, Peyton Reed, and Michael Keaton. Commercially, I have now worked on campaigns for hundreds of companies and can frequently be overheard saying things like "I need you to smile when you take a bite of that fish stick as if it is both a delicious treat and an exceptional discount."
I'm also very active in the Chicago theatre community. I have been a member of the Serendipity Theatre Collective since 2000 and am also a proud company member of Barrel of Monkeys, a group that provides creative writing workshops for Chicago public elementary schools that lack arts funding. As a director, my recent credits include Serendipity's Chicago and L.A. productions of girl,20 (Best Director and Best Ensemble nominations, LA Weekly 2008 Theatre Awards), This Is Our Youth for Pine Box Theatre, and Dennis Tar, High School Tennis Star! at the Annoyance and i.o. theatres.
I remain a Cleveland Indians fan. I cannot help myself.
