Scholarships

The Business Department awards competitive scholarships each academic year to approximately 50 students. The amount of each award varies by scholarship and may vary slightly from year to year.

Below is a summary by name of scholarships available in the Business Department. A combined application form for all departmental scholarships is available from the department office in early February. Awards are announced by the end of March. Clarence and Nelly Battjes Scholarship: for or junior or senior business majors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

John and Judith Bielema Economics and Business Scholarship: for a student entering the junior year who demonstrates promise of leadership and the ability to integrate Christianity in the chosen field of study. Financial need is a secondary consideration.

Lawrence D. Bos, Sr. Family Scholarship: for students entering their junior or senior year with a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

Margaret and Douglas Bush Family Business Scholarship: for a department student with a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Gordon and Rose Buter Business Administration Scholarship: for seniors with at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Frank and Bernice Deppe Family Scholarship: for a junior or senior majoring in business, preferably aiming at a career in sales or marketing, with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

De Vos Business Scholarship: strong academic achievement and financial need a priority; preference given to first generation college students.

Lloyd H. DeVries Scholarship: for a business major entering the junior or senior year with a minimum grade point of 2.7.

Patricia S. Duthler Scholarship: for students with grade point of 3.0 or higher; preference given to international students who plan to return to their native country and begin their own business.

J. Herman and N. Lucile Fles Scholarship: for a student majoring in business, with first consideration given to graduates of Grand Rapids Christian High School.

Marsha Greenwood Memorial Scholarship: for economics or business majors entering their junior or senior year with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award of this scholarship alternates between the Department of Economics and Business and the Department of Education.

Robert and Harriet Hasper Scholarship: for a junior or senior accounting major with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

James R. Hertel Scholarship: for a business or economics major entering the junior or senior year with a minimum grade point average of 2.7.

Warren and Dorothy Koop Scholarship: for a business student with an entrepreneurial spirit who is successfully coping with learning challenges in the academic environment.

John and Marge Kuyers Family Scholarship: for business or accounting major entering the junior or senior year with a minimum grade point average of 2.7.

Rietberg Family Scholarship: for a student entering the junior or senior year, majoring business or public administration, and planning to participate in the experiential learning program.

Roels Business Scholarship: for a first generation college student entering the junior or senior year with a minimum grade point of 3.3.

Charles J. and Marianne Stehouwer Business Scholarship: for students entering their junior or senior year, majoring in business or accounting, with a cumulative grade point of 2.3 or higher, and evidence of financial need.

Jacob and Jennie Tuinstra Scholarship: for a female student entering her junior or senior year and majoring in business, accounting or a group major with an emphasis on business.

Charles J. VanDenBerg Family Business Scholarship: for students entering their junior or senior year with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Herbert and Doris Vander Mey Scholarship: for students entering their junior or senior year with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, majoring in business or economics.

Randall K. Vander Weele Memorial Scholarship: for a student entering their senior year and majoring in a business or B.S. in Accountancy program.

Kenneth J. Van Spronsen Memorial Scholarship: for a business student entering the junior or senior year with a minimum 2.7 grade point average; preference given to non-Michigan resident.

Bernard Vellenga, Jr. Scholarship: for a student entering the junior or senior year with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and pursuing a program in business administration or accounting.

John and Dorothy Wiest Accounting Scholarship: for an accounting major entering the junior or senior year with a minimum grade point of 3.0.

Scholarship for Women in Business: for a female business student with entrepreneurial interests entering her junior year. Applications for this scholarship only are accepted in the fall of the sophomore year. The application process will include interviews with the department committee and the donors, Barbara and Melvin VanderBrug.
