Pre-professional programs prepare students for admission to post-baccalaureate professional schools, e.g., medical school, physician’s assistant programs, or optometry schools. A student may select any major and still meet the entrance requirements for nearly all medically related professional programs. However, nationwide the majority of applicants are science majors, and many majors in biology.
Calvin has pre-professional programs in:
- pre-medicine
- pre-dentistry
- pre-physical therapy
- pre-occupational therapy
- pre-pharmacy
- pre-physician’s assistant
Each pre-professional program has an advisor and many faculty knowledgeable about professional schools and professional education.
To maximize application information, a pre-medicine and pre-dental committee uniquely develops each recommendation for a medical or dental school. This individual attention is unusual for colleges and universities.
Program Strengths:
Outstanding Facilities and Equipment
includes a new $22-million laboratory addition to the Science Building and a new $2-million Interpretive Center on the 85-acre Ecosystem Preserve
A Liberal Arts Curriculum
provides, by design, diverse disciplinary experiences
- science courses emphasize hands-on, problem-solving activities that teach evaluation and critical-thinking skills
- includes off-campus interim/semester courses in Europe, Asia, and Third World Countries with opportunities to explore health-care outside the U.S
Dedicated, Caring Faculty
with a personal interest in students, their education, and their personal faith
- all science faculty have a Ph.D. degree, most with postdoctoral or other relevant “real-world” experiences
- faculty and students work together on summer and academic-year research
- each year students co-author research publications in professional journals and make presentations at professional meetings
