Experiential Learning: Student Employment

Working in the biology department

Each semester the biology department employs 45 students. Students have worked in the following positions:

    student researcher
  • Students can be laboratory assistants who mentor lower level students in lab courses and assist faculty with grading.
  • Research assistants do library or lab research in support of a particular faculty.
  • Journalists investigate and report on biology news for our Web site.
  • Greenhouse and aquarium assistants care for the living organisms within the department.
  • Department assistants and tour guides offer hospitality and service.
  • Biology students can also work at the Ecosystem Preserve as preserve stewards, program assistants and summer camp leaders.
