Educational/Professional  Background
Yoshiko was born in Osaka, Japan, and grew up in Shiga Prefecture, which is next to Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital.  She received her degree in education from Shiga University, a national university that specializes in teacher training.  She earned a certificate to teach elementary, middle school and high school.  Yoshiko has also taken graduate courses at Michigan State University in adult education and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language in 1988.

Academic Interests
After teaching English to students and business people in Japan for over two years, as well as serving as an interpreter for different organizations, Yoshiko moved to Grand Rapids area in 1991 and has worked both as a teacher and an interpreter/translator.  She has taught the Japanese language at many different institutions, including high schools, universities, Japanese schools and a children’s learning center, as well as providing private and customized lessons in various settings.   Yoshiko is also privileged to translate Christian literature into Japanese to spread the good news of the Gospel in Japan.

When Yoshiko is not planning lessons or teaching see loves spending time with her children, Eric, who is in high school, and her daughter, Emily, who is in middle school.  Yoshiko also enjoys scrap booking pictures of her family, meeting new people, and spending time with old friends.
