Henry Van Andel Memorial Scholarship

Dorothea Van Andel  Vergeer and John R. and Phyllis Van Andel have dedicated this scholarship to the memory of their father, Henry J. G. Van Andel, professor of Dutch language, literature, and culture at Calvin College from 1915-1950. Professor Van Andel was especially beloved for his courses in Dutch and Flemish painting. Many of his students began with him a life-long journey of enjoyment in fine arts.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Applicant is a current student planning to enroll full-time the following year.
• Applicant will be entering their sophomore, junior or senior year.
• Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (all college classes) or higher.
• Applicant must display some evidence of financial need.
• Applicant is either an art history major or art education major.
• Selection:   first consideration will be given to students majoring in Art History; second consideration to students majoring in Art Education; third consideration to other art majors.

One scholarship of $3,200 was awarded for 2009-2010.
