What does it take for those considering an Architectural Studies Program?

What is your MOTIVATION for pursuing architecture as your profession? You face five to eight years of education plus three years work experience before licensure examination. On what resources will you draw? What will keep your fires burning when the program increases its demands, as it will in all professional programs?

What are your COMMITMENTS? Professional programs in architecture present various philosophies: value laden approaches to clients, materials, design forms, work units, land use, and many other views. Through the Christian liberal arts program at Calvin, we trust you will come to understand that architectural design of human living, working, worshiping, and recreating spaces involved all of human culture and the resources of the creation. As an architect you need to nderstand the breadth and depth of human culture in order to use your developed architectural gifts and abilities, through the responsible use of creation resources, within the cultures for which you will design, and all before the face of the living God.

Are you prepared for an ACADEMICALLY DEMANDING professional program?
The Arts and Sciences unite in architectural concerns for Design, Math, Structures, Philosophy, Materials, History of Art and Architecture, Business and Economics, Management, Environmental, Literature, and the Behavioral Sciences. Schools of Architecture often consider applicants with an average B or better: (2.8>3.4+) G.P.A. Applicants are up nationwide and acceptance rates are down. Competition is growing and acceptance is more difficult. Strategically target your schools.
