BACHELOR OF ARTS IN
ART EDUCATION

The Bachelor of Arts In Art Education qualifies students for certification by the State of Michigan to teach art at either the elementary or the secondary level. Students majoring in art education do a semester of student teaching at a local school and attend a seminar on teaching methods led by their department supervisor.

Art Department Requirements:
To be admitted to directed teaching, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (B-).

Education Department Requirements:
Schedule and pass competency tests in August, October, February or April of sophomore year. Apply for admission to the teacher education program by the spring semester of your sophomore year. Have completed 25 hours of supervised experience with school-aged people. Apply for student teaching by March 1 prior to the academic year in which you plan to student teach.

Teacher's Certification Requirements:
Apply for a Teacher Certification during fall registration of the internship year.
