Jo Kuyvenhoven

Jo Kuyvenhoven, Associate Professor of Education at Calvin College, received her PhD from the University of British Columbia. From 1981-1985 Kuyvenhoven worked and lived in a small village in Sierra Leone where she developed a passion for teaching literacy. Since 2001 she has spent two months each year in Sierra Leone working with local teachers to develop curriculum and started a primary school where some of the innovative teaching styles are being applied. Her research interests are in the area of story telling as pedagogy and her most recent book is titled In the Presence of Each Other: A Pedagogy of Storytelling (University of Toronto Press, 2009).
